Preparing for Innovation: AUA Upgrades Greenhouses and Explores Smart Hydroponics

The Agricultural University of Athens (AUA), a partner in the FIT4CEA project, is currently renovating and upgrading its greenhouse facilities in Athens, Greece, to prepare for the upcoming experimental activities planned within the project. These improvements aim to provide suitable infrastructure for testing innovative cultivation technologies and improving resource efficiency in controlled environment agriculture.

In parallel, the AUA research team has initiated preliminary experiments using indoor closed-loop hydroponic systems for leafy green crops. This research focuses on testing and validating remote sensing techniques, including multispectral imaging, for the early detection of water stress and nutrient deficiencies. The aim is to explore non-destructive monitoring methods that can support more precise irrigation and nutrient management.

Together, these activities lay the groundwork for future FIT4CEA experiments and contribute to the development of more efficient, sustainable, and technology-driven cultivation systems.
